The Verification Process
Verification is a process to confirm information you provided on the FAFSA. Verification selection can be random or because your FAFSA data was incomplete, estimated or inconsistent. The U.S. Department of Education selects some students for the verification process. Others are selected by the school due to discrepancies in their data.
If your application was selected for verification, the Law School Financial Aid Office will ask you to provide additional information to document the accuracy of the data reported on your FAFSA, including a verification worksheet and a copy of your federal tax return (and your spouse’s federal tax return, if you are married).
You may also be requested to verify your citizenship status, your social security number, or your selective service registration.
The Financial Aid Office will send an email to your WSU email account to notify you to review you document requests on Pipeline. All document requests must be completed before any financial aid can be disbursed to your account.
After verifying the additional information that you submit, the Law School Financial Aid Office may make corrections of your FAFSA data. If any discrepancies are uncovered during verification, the financial aid office may require additional information to clear up the discrepancies. If the documentation is not submitted, the financial aid package will be canceled and no aid disbursed.
Copies of federal tax returns
Copies of federal tax returns can be requested from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) on Form 4506, "Request for Copy or Transcript of Tax Form," which is available online at www.irs.gov.
Verification Deadline
The deadline to submit documents is the last day of the term or your last day of enrollment in the academic year, whichever is earlier. As we cannot certify Federal Direct loans after your last day of at-least-half-time enrollment, we strongly recommend you submit all documents within 14 days of receipt of the verification notice.
