Financial Aid and the Part-time Student
Part-time Students are Eligible to Apply for Financial Aid
You must be enrolled at least halftime to receive most federal loans. Halftime enrollment is five credits for JD students during the fall and winter semesters and three credits during the summer semester. We cannot certify a Federal Direct Stafford loan after you drop below halftime enrollment. Enrollment is verified and reported by the Law School Records Office, (313) 577-3979.

Additional online services include on-demand access to apply for federal aid; view your financial aid award and outstanding requirements via Academica; receive email notifications about your aid; sign loan promissory notes; complete loan-counseling requirements; manage your student loan account; receive financial aid refunds through direct deposit; and receive answers to your questions via email.
Online Aid Application
FEDERAL STUDENT AID
Apply for aid online by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The Federal Student Aid Information Center, (800) 4FEDAID [800-433-3243], can answer application processing questions.
All new students are considered for scholarships during the admission process. Continuing students are encouraged to apply for Wayne Law awards in the fall. Information is available on the Wayne Law webite.

Information on applying for and repaying student loans is available on our Law Student Loans Web page. We recommend that you consider borrowing only if you have exhausted all other options.
Award and Outstanding Requirement Review
Activate your Wayne State email and check the status of your financial aid application, including document requirements and award amounts, on Academica. The Office of Student Financial Aid will send an email message to your WSU email address each time there is a change in your financial aid status.
Electronic Processes to Complete Requirements
StudentLoans.gov is the main source of information and resources to manage your student loan debt. The site enables you to:
- View your loan documents
- Complete required loan entrance and exit counseling
- Sign federal Stafford and Graduate PLUS loan promissory notes
- Access information on Loan Consolidation, Loan Repayment and Student Loan Forgiveness Options
Sign up for direct deposit of financial aid refund checks by activating your myWSUCard.

We cannot certify a Federal Direct Loan after you drop below halftime enrollment. A limited amount of Federal Perkins Loan funds is available only to students with exceptional financial need. A current and complete FAFSA is required.
